چکیده

The peripheral setting of cold drylands in Asian mountains makes remote sensing tools essential for respective monitoring. However, low vegetation cover and a lack meteorological stations lead to uncertainties modeling, obstruct uncovering driving degradation factors. We therefore analyzed the importance promising variables, including soil-adjusted indices high-resolution snow metrics, quantification classification Afghanistan’s Wakhan region using Sentinel-2 field data with random forest algorithm. To increase insights on remotely derived climate proxies, we incorporated temporal correlation analysis MODIS (NDSI) compared measured MODIS-NDVI anomalies. Repeated spatial cross-validation showed good performance (80–81% overall accuracy) foliar model ( R 2 0.77–0.8, RMSE 11.23–12.85). Omitting approach led positive evaluation bias 0.1 accuracy 25% models, demonstrating that studies not considering structure environmental must be treated caution. 500-repeated Boruta-algorithm highlighted MSACRI, MSAVI, NDVI short-wave infrared Band-12 as most important variables. This indicates that, complementary traditional indices, variables are modeling grasslands. Snow also high but they did improve models. Single-variable which were restricted areas very (<20%), resulted poor prediction better Our provides evidence proxies by showing highly significant correlations spring during 2001–2020 (Pearson’s r 0.68) 2006, 2007, 2016 2018 (R 0.3). Strong differences visible higher alpine grasslands (MODIS NDVI: 0.72, data: 0.74) other regions lowest riparian thereby show new monitoring approaches grassland dynamics enable development sustainable management strategies, mitigation threats affecting Central Asia.

Comparing the Capability of Sentinel 2 and Landsat 8 Satellite Imagery in Land Use and Land Cover Mapping Using Pixel-based and Object-based Classification Methods

Introduction: Having accurate and up-to-date information on the status of land use and land cover change is a key point to protecting natural resources, sustainable agriculture management and urban development. Preparing the land cover and land use maps with traditional methods is usually time and cost consuming. Nowadays satellite imagery provides the possibility to prepare these maps in less ...

Narrow band based and broadband derived vegetation indices using Sentinel-2 Imagery to estimate vegetation biomass

Forest’s ecosystem is one of the most important carbon sink of the terrestrial ecosystem. Remote sensing technology provides robust techniques to estimate biomass and solve challenges in forest resource assessment. The present study explored the potential of Sentinel-2 bands to estimate biomass and comparatively analyzed of red-edge band based and broadband derived vegetation indices. Broadband...

Normalizing Aster Data Using Modis Products for Land Cover Classification

ASTER has similar bandwidths and spatial resolution to Landsat and is an important component of the mid-resolution data archive. However, the limited duty cycle of ASTER and relatively small scene size has resulted in a “patchwork” archive of global imagery. The changes of solar geometries (BRDF) and phenology complicate land cover classification and change detection especially when comparing t...

Land Cover Classification from MODIS Satellite Data Using Probabilistically Optimal Ensemble of Artificial Neural Networks

Terra and Aqua, 2 satellites launched by the NASA-centered international Earth Observing System project, house MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) sensors. Moderate resolution remote sensing allows the quantifying of land surface type and extent, which can be used to monitor changes in land cover and land use for extended periods of time. In this paper, we propose applying a p...

Urban Land Cover and Spatial Variation Observation Using Aster and Modis Satellite Image Data

Land cover and land use changes associated with urbanization are important drivers of local geological, hydrological, ecological, and climatic change. Quantification and monitoring of these changes in 100 global urban centres are part of the mission of the ASTER instrument on board the NASA Terra satellite, and comprise the fundamental research objective of the Urban Environmental Monitoring (U...
